The Body of This Goddess

The body of this Goddess is covered with scars

From insulin injections. Cysts. Infection.

The heart of this Goddess is covered in layers of burlap and steel rings,

and sarcasm and things

that keep it from withering down.

Because the face of this Goddess has been lied to,

more times than her fingers can count.

This Goddess was taught to be deceived.

To hate her own image.

To devalue herself, to not believe…

Her.

Own.

Worth.

And this Goddess believed it.

But the Goddess in this body stepped outside

of her skin, her mind,

and saw herself for the first time,

without judgment, without hate,

without bias, to instigate

a closer inspection.

A new inception.

And the Goddess in this body realized…

She was beautiful and strong

and intelligent and wise.

And to hell with those who told her she couldn’t.

And to hell with those who stood there and wouldn’t

Honestly love or support her.

Because when this Goddess realized her merit,

The body of this Goddess shed its scars.

picked up pride,

and decided to wear it.
