I can’t remember a time when I didn’t listen to Buddy Holly. My mom always had “oldies” playing and he was among them. My very favorite song of his is “Rave On.” It’s just rad. And I threw in this video of Buddy Holly and The Crickets playing “Peggy Sue” live on The Ed Sullivan […]
This song is part of the soundtrack for the movie, Stir of Echoes, with Kevin Bacon, our favorite name-game actor. Fun flick. Late 90’s horror/thriller thing. This song will forever more remind me of women murdered and buried in walls. And then going on to star in series like Once Upon a Time.
The first time I got up and sang alone in front of an audience (that I can remember), it was to sing this song at my high school solo concert. This was the first version of it I heard and it is still my very favorite.
Thriller, the video, scared the shit out of me when I was kid and watched it for the first time. I frantically tried escaping over the back of my grandmother’s recliner, screaming madly for my mother who, of course, came tearing into the room to save me. She carted me off to the living room […]

If it makes you happy, it could be that bad but if it doesn’t hurt anyone, do it anyway.
I hadn’t heard the Nirvana version of this until I was this many days old. But as a little kiddo, the Terry Jacks version was one of my favorite songs. Here’s both of them for you to enjoy:
This song is so bittersweet for me. It has become both the sweetest and the saddest song in my life. When my dog was dying, I held him in my arms and sang this song to him. And when my sister and I were sitting with my mom while she was dying, I sang this […]
Is there anyone who can’t relate to this song in some way? Changes in life, life starting, life ending… It’s all movin’ on.
My mama liked this song. She wasn’t really an optimistic person but she was always hopeful. And I think that this song buoyed her sense of hope. One thing I know for sure, through all of the struggle life threw her way, she never forgot how to smile.
